HAQUEEQUAT-E-HUSN | REALITY OF BEAUTY

HAQUEEQUAT-E-HUSN | REALITY OF BEAUTY

Mila jawab ke tasweer khana hai duniya | Shab-e-daraz-e-adam ka fasana hai duniya

Beauty implored! Entreated God one day
Why on Earth was I ordained to decay
A picture-house this world is God replied
A fiction it is of the long eternal night
It originates from the change of changing colours

Beautiful is that that changes and decays
Somewhere nearby was the Moon that this overheard
It spread in the skies and reached the Morning Star
From stars to the morning and the morning dew! Thus the word
Came to the earth and the flower petals that wept those pearly drops
The young bud turned red with grief in the heart
The season of spring trudged along its long way out crying
Youth had come on a pleasure trip. Alas! That left in grief!

(This is an ordinary translation in English of an extraordinary poem in Urdu by Dr Allama Iqbal)
